Did you ever dream that you were a dog agility super champ except then it switched and you were at some germy, grungy, derelict seaside park in the dark and the carnies were actually drug addled zombies that were shambling after you with hammers and their big teeth? And then as you're trying to escape your way out from under their oily, horrible claws by clambering up a rat infested palm tree, you're all, this is about dog agility like, how?

Oh No Otterpop!
Uh oh. We were on a run/walk/run at the whale skeletons after work and Otterpop mysteriously ended up 3 legs. Just like that. Poof. From 4 legs and running to three and whimpering. Zero weight bearing on her right front. One of her GOOD legs.
My official veterinary exam turned up nothing except for miserable, horrible pain. I had to make her a muzzle out of a sock because she was freaking me out with her growling. Otterpop never growls at me. Not good. So I called the emergency vet to see whether one of my friends was working. Who is a real vet and doesn't just play one on the internet. Indeed! And off we went.
Otterpop doesn't like vets. Really doesn't like them. I ask for a muzzle when I walk in the door. It's embarrassing. My friend the emergency doc is an agility pal who knows Otterpop though, and she didn't care. She did sedate her right away. Because Otterpop was a pretty crabby and uncomfortable little monster. Really not happy.
Nothing seemed broken. Something is wrong with her foot. I'll take her back in for a radiograph if she isn't bearing weight on it by this morning. Because I'm like that. Cheap. Sedated Otterpop is really quite a site. Too drunk to walk. Too drunk to shout. Too drunk to do anything except lay miserably on the couch. She's actually very lovely to have around the house, except for the miserable part.
We are hoping for a really, really bad stubbed toe. Or a little sprain. That feels better by the first round of Steeplechase on Saturday. At the Regionals. Timing is everything. It's ok though. I'd rather have a happy, 4 footed Otterpop than anything else, so if she can't run this weekend and needs to just sit around with her foot up, it's ok with me. We shall see. Think nice foot thoughts for Otterpop.

Poor Otterpop. Thinking good foot healing thoughts for her. Here's hoping it's nothing serious.
Sometimes the memory of the pain is as bad as the pain. Hopefully she forgets and is up and spry this morning.
Sending good thoughts your way.
all fingers and paws crossed here for otterpop's speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear about Otterpop's leg. I hope it gets better in a jiffy!
Otterpop has been downgraded to limpy. We're going to stay on the drugs/NO RUNNING for now and see how it goes. It seems like one toe is bugging her more than the rest of her foot.
Laying in her bed with her foot up crying was just too much last night. So not Otterpop. Don't tell her I told you that.
She might be hanging out with you this weekend, Vici!
Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery! Otterpop tells me that really good steak is very healing.
It is so sad to have a sad and injured dog. Hope it's better quick.
Sending many good thoughts...yes, yes, steak is good...so are teeny, tiny peanut butter balls, which have the advantage of lasting longer in the mouth, and causing distracting jaw motions...
Pan hopes her lucky legs will help Otterpop recover quickly

Otterpop is now very cranky and mean about being held hostage and I am seeing much less limp when she's walking/straining to leap/walking on her leash. She thinks she feels fine again. I think she nearly does but we'll give it a couple more days of resting and hopefully this injury will be known as Really Bad Sore Toe That Went Away Quick. Thanks to the healing powers of the internet!
